Friday (yes I am playing catch-up here..) Day trip today. Instead of picking up the hire car today as planned we booked ourselves a tour. Table Mountain via Cable Car was the first stop – incredible views and very cold at the top. Fortunate with a clear day although a few clouds/fog rolled through while we were up there.

Next stop – Bo-Kaap with its colourful houses – these houses were built from the 1760s by Dutch colonists and leased to slaves who had been brought from Malaysia, Indonesia and the rest of Africa. These houses were originally white but once the slaves were freed they could buy a house and paint it whatever damn colour they liked.

From here we stopped to see a colony of Cape Penguins before heading south to Cape Point and then Cape of Good Hope where the Indian Ocean meets the Atlantic Ocean. We spotted more ostriches along the way and some eland too! Our guide for the day Alberto was very entertaining and informative.

This looks like great fun! Nothing beats spontaneous side trips.
